Yoga for Pregnancy

Yoga for Pregnancy offers a simple way for you to enjoy the various stages of your pregnancy to the full, helping you to connect with your baby as he or she grows, and preparing for the birth of your baby.

We focus on improving your health, both physical and mental-emotional, throughout your pregnancy, and use specially adapted Yoga practices to alleviate the usual discomforts, aid relaxation and help you achieve a smoother transition to motherhood.

Classes are fun and easy-going, giving you a safe space to connect with other mothers-to-be, ease away the worries that  often accompany pregnancy, and enjoy this beautiful time of change in your life.

With practice, you will find that the movement, breathing, sound and imagination practices that we do will keep you strong and supple, improve your energy and help you learn to relax. We will explore techniques that may lessen the impact of common physical ailments in pregnancy such as heartburn, pelvic and lower back pain, varicose veins and fluid retention. You will learn to connect your body and mind, to explore the breath and prepare for childbirth and beyond.

Who can do Yoga for Pregnancy?

Anyone can do some form of Yoga during pregnancy, as Yoga should always be adapted to the individual's needs. This may often bear little resemblance to the Yoga you might see in a class in your local health club or gym, but this is largely because we specifically tailor our practices to meet your needs during pregnancy.

One-to-One Sessions

One-to-One Yoga is always the best way to develop your practice, because it allows the teacher to specifically target your needs and offer a more effective approach to practice. We only teach in this way for pregnant women before the 12-week stage, for those who have known health issues that they wish to target directly, and for anyone else who feels that they would prefer to experience Yoga in a more focused and personalised situation.

Meeting about once a month, One-to-One sessions allow our teachers to give individual attention to adapting your Yoga practice to the changing physical and mental-emotional needs as that pregnancy brings. We can then directly tackle any minor ailments that arise, and give you an enjoyable and manageable practice (usually about 20-30 minutes long) that can be done  regularly as suits to your individual lifestyle.

Group Classes

Group classes are ideal for women of reasonable health, with no existing major issues that would require an individualised practice, from any time after your 12 week scan. These small (max. 8 students) classes  meet weekly, aiming to give you an experience of the tools that Yoga offers to allow you to adapt to the changes of pregnancy and motherhood.

Testimonials

"After leaving each class I always feel positive about what I’ve done and I feel that I’m helping my body prepare as best as I can for labour. I also think I’ll be more confident when explaining what I would like/need to the midwife and not feeling pressured to do something I don’t want to."  - K.G. - Glasgow

"Everything I learnt at pregnancy yoga definitely helped me get through the labour pains so thank you." - C.C. - Kilmarnock

"I would say that the strength built up doing the class in general was what got me through, along with pelvic floor exercises. I kept very active during labour which I think helped too. I would also say the relaxation in your class was beneficial too - it was about the only time I got to relax." - J.A. - Glasgow

Where can I find Yoga for Pregnancy?

One-to-One sessions are conducted by mutual arrangement, usually at either the teacher or the student's home, or at any other suitable location (e.g. local holistic therapy centre).
