Yoga for Pregnancy in Glasgow

What is Yoga for Pregnancy?

These are small, specialist classes designed to meet the needs of mums-to-be from 13 weeks until birth.

Prenatal Yoga is an easy-going, safe way of staying fit and healthy throughout pregnancy without straining your body. In addition, our practices will help keep aches and pains at bay, while raising up your energy levels, helping your mind and body to relax and preparing you for the demands of childbirth and parenthood. The techniques of Yoga can also help you find an easier, lighter way to give birth.

This class is limited to 8 students at any time. Please note that this is an ongoing class, which means that you can join in at any time and enjoy all the way from 13 weeks until childbirth (if you are under 13 weeks, please make a booking as soon as possible as there can often be a waiting list for both classes).

This Group Class is suitable for most women who are generally healthy - even if you are currently unfit! However, if you have specific health issues that would prevent you partaking in a moderate level of movement and exercise, then Group Classes may not be suitable for you. If so, please follow these links to read the appropriate sections of my website on One-to-One Classes and Yoga for Healing  and get in touch with me.

Where?

These TWO classes are held within the Upper Hall at the church halls of Newton Mearns Parish Church, 242 Ayr Road, Glasgow.

This venue is right next door to The Avenue shopping centre in Newton Mearns, and the  church faces onto the main road to Glasgow. It is just 5 minutes off the M77. The church halls are accessed from the back of the Church (see picture) and the Upper Hall is up the stairs to the right as you enter the building, on the left hand side.

Car parking is easy in the shopping centre car park, right next to the halls. Please note that if you  want to park closer to the halls you will need to plan to arrive about 5.45pm as this area is busy You can find an interactive map here.

When?

These classes run on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 7.20pm and 7.35pm to 8.55pm.

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before class starts in order to be settled when we begin, and not to disturb everyone else when you enter.

What to bring?

Please wear comfortable clothing as appropriate to the current temperature, remembering that we often spend periods of time at stillness.

You will need to bring your own yoga mat (usually available at Tesco, Asda, TK Maxx and many other stores locally). I also recommend that you bring a blanket to keep you warm during relaxation.

Cost?

This class costs £80 per 8-week block of classes - please read this page on Block Bookings before reading any further.

Please note, to avoid embarrassment, that full payment for each block is required before joining the class. Payment by online booking, personal cheque (with guarantee card) or cash is accepted.

Anything else?

These classes will not be too strenuous, so it is possible to eat a little before coming to class, especially advisable if you haven't had much to eat all day. It is good for your body to take in some water before practice (though not too much).

Respect for your fellow students is expected at all times during class, especially if you arrive late.

Please do not disturb other students by talking or acting inappropriately in class.

Testimonials

"It's a great class to learn useful breathing techniques, birthing positions, relaxation exercises, and the correct way to get out of a chair/bed amongst many other things, and lets you talk to other pregnant woman so that you know you're not alone. Having attended some ante-natal classes I would recommend it as a better way of understanding the breathing you need, and gives you a chance to learn it correctly instead of just going to one/two ante-natal classes on breathing and being expected to remember it a couple of months later." - K.G. - Glasgow

"Thanks again for all the support in the classes - it really did make a huge difference!!!" -  P.M. - Glasgow

"I am very glad that I had the time in your classes beforehand, as it kept me calm when I went into second stage and I managed to avoid an epidural." - K.B. - Glasgow
