One-to-One Yoga Sessions

Why One-to-One Yoga?

Each student's reason for preferring One-to-One Yoga sessions is usually simple - in that for some reason or another you feel that my scheduled group classes won't meet your needs. This may simply be because the times don't suit your lifestyle, or you don't want to join a group class, preferring the benefits and more intense learning experience that One-to-One learning can bring.

These sessions are also known as Yoga Healing or Yoga Therapy, so if you have an injury, ailment or condition that means you cannot do group classes then this would be the best option as they are more easily adapted to your own specific physical, mental-emotional  and/or spiritual needs.

Whatever your reasons, One-to-One Yoga sessions will help you develop an individualised home practice that will cater to your needs, even when life intervenes and changes these.

What will it involve?

This process begins with an initial consultation, where we can discuss your needs and how Yoga will approach meeting them. I will truly take the time to listen and find out who you are, what you want from Yoga (and from life) and start to discuss how this can be progressed within the constraints of your everyday life. From this will evolve a practice that is truly tailored to meet your needs and circumstances. With this close attention to personal circumstances, it is possible to develop an effective practice that takes as little as 15 minutes each day.

The practice we develop together may involve gentle postures, bringing changes over time to your body, helping you to find ease and comfort whatever your physical condition. It will certainly involve an exploration of the breath, developing awareness of how it affects the rest of your body, and how we can use it to effect changes. With the breath and body at ease, we can turn your attention towards the mind and beyond, helping you to find that stillness, that balanced perspective that can be so elusive.

Taught in this personalised manner, Yoga is ideal for many medical conditions, even those which usually prevent some people from joining a group class. It is also more suitable for those who want to go more deeply in their Yoga studies, or for those who would like to take their first steps in discovering the joys of Yoga in private.

Whatever you want from Yoga, One-to-One classes can help to make your journey smooth and focused.

What sort of illnesses and conditions can you work with?

There is a saying in Yoga that as long as a student can breathe, we can help them.

However I feel it bears expressing that Yoga does not offer a cure for many of the ailments that are common nowadays. Still, it has been my own personal experience that  even where there is NO cure, a specific Yoga practice can often help a student to manage the symptoms of many chronic illnesses in a way that medication or surgery cannot. This is not a slur on the wonders of modern medicine, it is simply a fact that the aggravating factors to these ailments are often a person's lifestyle and stress levels, so they need lifestyle changes (and not just pills) in order to see some improvement in overall health.

Over the years I have worked with many different people with such varied problems as muscle and joint injuries (including back problems), Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Syndrome, Chronic Pain/Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue/ME, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn's Disease, Endometriosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Asthma, Heart Conditions and (as the saying goes) many, many more...

How often do I need One-to-One lessons?

There is no set interval between lessons.

They will be more frequent to begin with, however the aim of Yoga is to empower you, not to make you reliant on repeat visits to your teacher. This means you will probably only have lessons every month or so unless there are health or other reasons that demand more frequent attention.

Where do I have my One-to-One?

These sessions usually take place at StillPoint Holistic Therapy Centre in Kilmarnock. If you have genuine mobility problems then they can take place at your home, however this may incur extra costs.

What will they cost?

If you want to pay on a drop-in basis these sessions will cost £40 an hour. However most people prefer to sign up for the discounted annual rate of £300 per year (or £30 a month, min. 12 months) which then allows you unlimited one-to-one sessions as dictated by your needs. For this fee you can also attend any (or all) Self Practice classes without further charge.

How can I book?

If you are committed to developing a Yoga practice to meet your needs over the long term, please get in touch with me in order to arrange an appointment to start the empowering process of Yoga.
